Standing Ovation

Maine! A state I've always wanted to live in for some bizarre reason! Maine!
For those not keeping track: Iowa, Vermont, sorta-DC, Massachusetts, Connecticut!
And soon: New York and Maine!

  1. Yes. Great news. I am not at all surprised that Maine is likely to do this. I've spent a lot of time in Maine and I have never met a Maine native that was mean or unfriendly. People do there own thing and mind their own business. The only idiots I ever encountered there were not from there.

Maine people are about fairness. Treating anyone unfairly is just not acceptable. This is not to day that there are not any very religious people in Maine, because there are. Lots of them. They tend to take what Christ actually said very seriously. This is what that fairness thing is about.

I suspect they would have considered this sooner if anyone had bothered to point out that the current situation is unfair to gays.

In New England, Rhode Island should move once Maine has. They will be in a hurry not to be in an exclusive club with New Hampshire. New Hampshire is a tough call. It's a very conservative state, but it's New England conservative which really means fiscal conservatism, but relatively liberal on social issues.

Natives of New Hampshire are very similar to the folks in Maine. They are too busy minding their own business to have time to make anyone's life difficult and they have that strong sense of fairness. They will talk it to death before they make a move though. It may take a while, but I am pretty certain that all of New England will have Same Sex Marriage.

I should have mentioned that Rhode Island already has legislation that will recognize Same Sex Marriages from other states (such as CT and MA). I don't know if it passed, but it sounded like there was no opposition. The LDS Church fascists could whip some up.
